ABSTRACT

Vehicular networks are an exciting platform for developing new and useful applications. As driving is an almost universal experience, just about anyone can think of some application that would be useful to them as a driver. Many of the applications would involve driver safety (as described in Chapter 5), but just as many would involve information delivery. ese applications would provide drivers with information about upcoming tra c conditions, weather forecasts, services available at interstate exits, special events in the area, and so on. For some of these applications, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication is su cient and even preferred, for example, collision avoidance warning systems. But, for many of these, especially nonurgent information delivery applications, a pervasive roadside infrastructure is the key enabling factor.
