ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the evolution and application of a system of human resource development guided by the objective of improving the qualifications of personnel at all levels. The system is based on principles of learning and self-development, drawing strength from a culture of coaching and constructive feedback processes. As a part of this system, the Development and Assessment Centre (DAC) presents a snapshot of each participant's capabilities. The chapter discusses the development of this system in Brazil and other countries and provides a description of its key elements as well as four case studies. It examines some of the lessons learned over the past 20 years assessing over 78,000 personnel in several large organizations in Brazil and other countries. The DAC is considered a parting of the seas' at Embraco, for it developed many new leaders. The DAC brought agility to the merger process, which had rapid integration as a top priority.
