ABSTRACT
The term peer resources is an overall term that takes on new titles depending upon local projects. The involvement of peer resources can provide an important component in the training of future peer helpers. Enabling others to observe what is and what can be done by peer helpers are excellent means of recruitment for future training programs. Volunteer activities may be of various types, such as service learning, mentoring, community service, and community-based learning. These activities involve designing a service project, implementing the project, and, finally, processing project. Peer resources have been used to train volunteers to augment professional staff for a crisis telephone or drop-in center. With proper supervision by professional staff members, peers can effectively teach basic communication skills to volunteers. Using regular meetings as advanced training sessions forms an effective segment in developing peer helping program. The major purpose is to provide a forum for peer helpers who are now applying what they have learned in training.
