ABSTRACT

Explosive power and body composition are important components of health-related physical fitness, reflecting the health status of children and adolescents (Ortega et al. , 2008a,b; Hands et al., 2009). Poor muscular and physical fitness in childhood has detrimental effects on a person’s health in adulthood (Ruiz et al., 2008). Numerous studies indicate that the physical fitness of children and adolescents is decreasing (Westerstahl et al., 2003; Wedderkopp et al., 2004; Volbekiene and Griciute, 2007). Physical fitness is not only a significant indicator of health (Ruiz et al., 2006), but an essential factor, that must be taken into account when developing the policy of public health (Ortega et al., 2008c).
