ABSTRACT

Why in a time of a deep international political and financial leadership crisis should so powerful a concept as corporate governance be discounted by so many directors, managers, politicians and the general public? I find this odd as my view is more positive. I see effective corporate governance rather as Portia saw her small candle – as “a shining light in a naughtie world”; a counter to the incompetence, ignorance and corruption that is undermining our organisations and societies. Matters are made worse by so few of those affected having any idea or language by which such reforms can be made.
