ABSTRACT
A common theme of digital journalism was the growth of video. There seems to be an assumption that people under 30 do not want to read text on their phones or tablets and would prefer to watch short clips. Video is the future. In the early noughties, big media companies began to host video, but they had the advantage of owning enough server space to manage sizeable video libraries. The first ever television, John Logie Baird's "televisor", had a portrait-shaped screen. Today, many companies are going back to Logie Baird's approach and experimenting with portrait or square video. YouTube provides really helpful data on the videos that we upload – though it's not particularly easy to find. One advantage of filming on a phone is that it is now easy to send pictures back to a colleague who can edit them or even to edit on their phone to upload to social media.
