ABSTRACT
Plastics are the fore most materials for packaging. In the present days, plastic materials obtained are of two kinds namely thermoset plastic and thermoform plastic. But, these plastic materials are hazardous to mankind and leave lot of carbon emissions to the atmosphere. Alternative plastic material called green plastics can be used to reduce the foot print of carbon emission and these materials are obtained from natural resources such as plant fibers which are biodegradable and renewable. The present work is focused on natural fibers for packaging applications. Survey is concentrated on environmental and packaging issues, packaging innovation techniques, reducing the packaging waste, sustainable, flexible and eco-packaging, recycling of waste plastics and biodegradable plastic materials. Experimental set up is also carried for natural fibers for packaging applications.
