ABSTRACT

Critics of criminal courts, the judiciary and various judicial findings in regard to the treatment of women and racial and ethnic minorities as victims, have become more vociferous in recent decades. Whether or not outcomes in the trials related to anti-homosexual violence measure up to liberal notions of equal justice is difficult to quickly gauge. Public opinion about the relative social worth of different victims and the personal merits of different perpetrators and their culpability for their actions is varied. In addition to this, there are important albeit fine differences between crimes which are at first glance identical.
