Along with trade, imperialism also facilitated tourism. As the Japanese developed the Korean economic infrastructure by building ports, expanding modern transportation networks, and constructing Western-style buildings, they simultaneously made Korea more hospitable to Western tourists. This advertisement for a European-run hotel shows the extent to which Seoul had become a modern city and a cosmopolitan center under Japanese control.
