ABSTRACT

The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of all Nations, 1851, held in the newly built Crystal Palace located in Hyde Park, London, was a showcase of both the technology of the industrial revolution and the exotic products of empire. The Crystal Palace itself was a display of new architectural techniques involving the combined use of iron and glass. Inside the building were endless displays of British products and machines and people and products from around the world, many from the growing British Empire. The Great Exhibition was the first of its kind and had a huge influence on British society. This image shows part of the India display.
