ABSTRACT
This chapter is concerned with the use of volunteers within the probation systems covered by the study. In some countries volunteers play an important role in the probation service, not only in relieving the pressure of work on probation officers but also in stimulating community participation in criminal justice and facilitating the reintegration of offenders in the community.
