ABSTRACT
The wave of arrests which started in May-June 1940 created a dening moment in the lives of a great many people – not only those who were imprisoned, but also the many who remained free, but who thereafter felt the shadow of internment hanging over them. These arrests governed the actions and thoughts of most of the people whose wartime experiences will be described in this book.
