ABSTRACT

Weeks Bay was designated as a National Estuarine Research Reserve site in 1986. Covering an area of ~2400 ha, the Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (Weeks Bay NERR) encompasses a variety of watershed and estuarine habitats, including upland forests, maritime and palustrine plant communities, swamps, freshwater marshes, salt marshes, tidal ßats, and open estuarine waters and bay bottom. Uplands and tidelands cover nearly 80% of the reserve area.
