ABSTRACT

Wellbeing is both an outcome and a process of human pursuit for protection, stability, and improvement. The concept of wellbeing includes comprehensive understanding of the relational aspects of the human being. This chapter conceptually and analytically elaborates the notion that human wellbeing evolves from convergence of internal and external strategies of organizational sustainability. It defines the concept of human wellbeing beyond the assumption of individual welfare. The chapter operationalizes human wellbeing from three dimensions: material, relational and subjective well being. It then discusses the human striving for continuous wellbeing improvement. The chapter explores the relevance of human wellbeing in relation to organizational sustainability, and proposes a strategic focus on economic wellbeing. It makes a distinction between internal and external strategies for organizational sustainability. Finally, the chapter concludes by exploring new directions.
