ABSTRACT

For solving crack problems analytically, several complex forms of Airy stress function have been proposed (Westergaard 1939; Muskhelishvili 1953; Paris and Sih 1965; Sih 1966, 1973; Rice 1969; Goodier 1969; Eftis and Liebowitz 1972). Among these different stress functions the Westergaard stress function has become most popular because it can solve a wide range of crack problems. A few sample problems are solved analytically in this chapter following the Westergaard stress function technique.
