This chapter points out how our increased knowledge of school bullying has helped design effective programs of intervention. It considers some factors affecting the degree of success of interventions. The chapter also points out the role of politicians and of charities in supporting anti-bullying work. It also considers again the distinction between bullying and aggression, discusses how bullying can happen in other contexts than schools and points to helpful websites as well as sources for further reading. The overall philosophy of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) is for adults to act as responsible and authoritative role models: to be both warm and supportive to students, but to set firm limits to unacceptable behaviour such as bullying. The KiVa anti-bullying program was developed in Finland between 2006 and 2009 by Christina Salmivalli and colleagues. KiVa is short for Kiusaamista Vastaan, or against bullying; and the acronym kiva also means nice or good in Finnish.
