ABSTRACT
On August 12, 1968, the way was made even clearer for Van Arsdale to play this role because that was the date he stepped down as business manager of Local 3. His son Thomas replaced him on a vote of the Local 3 executive board immediately after Harry announced his resignation. Thomas had graduated from the electrical engineering curriculum at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and joined Local 3 upon discharge from the World War II navy. He was well prepared for this position. Harry remained an officer by filling the position of financial secretary, replacing Albert Mackie who had retired.
