ABSTRACT

The human rights of women and of the girl-child are an inalienable, integral and indivisible part of universal human rights. The human rights of women should form an integral part of the United Nations human rights activities, including the promotion of all human rights instruments relating to women. Women who fail to qualify for benefits provided as a matter of right shall be entitled, subject to the means test required for social assistance, to adequate benefits out of social assistance funds. Men and women should thus be able to benefit from their rights and freedoms as enshrined in the various tabulations of rights without differentiation. Many different instruments impact on the rights of women to be protected from domestic violence and implementing policies of systematic rape can constitute genocide. The traditional balance of power was deemed to leave women more vulnerable to violence.
