ABSTRACT

In 2010, I launched an experimental research project entitled the Gallery of Wonder, envisioned as a centre for practice-based research exploring potential relationships between wonder and the making of visual art. This chapter describes the evolution of the Gallery of Wonder from the initial concept to the development of a travelling exhibition in a tent – the Gallery of Wonder on Tour. It examines the signicance of context, site and demographics in relation to the evocation of wonder, discusses the use of innovative frameworks for related works, and identies strategies for developing new audiences and reconguring their understanding of where art ‘belongs’.
