ABSTRACT
The fundamental principle of occupational ergonomics is to fit the job to the worker so that no worker
selection is necessary. Fitting the job to the worker should assure that feasible ergonomics measures of job
modification are done before the initiation of the selection process. According to the International
Ergonomics Association (IEA), modern ergonomics is a scientific discipline concerned with understand-
ing the interaction between humans and other elements of a system for optimizing the human well-being
and overall system performance (IEA, 2000). In the definition of the IEA, “elements of a system” may be
very diverse and related to technology and psychosocial issues that an individual utilizes or encounters
during working and leisure time, and even when sleeping.
