ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the learning function in a global organization and describes how multinational companies become global in the first place. It focuses on how globalization has affected the human resources function and the implications for learning program creation, design, development, implementation, and administration. SAP is the largest business software company in the world. SAP is at the center of today's business and technology revolution. While globalization affects countries and the global community as a whole, it also affects individual organizations as they participate in globalization. The first issue is pricing strategies. The second issue is trade. The third issue is foreign direct investment, which is important as companies seek assistance to invest in another country. The fourth issue is employment, the globalization issue affecting organizations the most. The fifth issue is inequality – an issue for countries, but also an issue for companies. Building a learning enterprise in a global environment creates many issues and opportunities.
