ABSTRACT

A key component of providing services and rehabilitation for people with brain injuries in under-resourced settings is the ability to work effectively with various types of organisation, such as non-profit organisations (NPOs), non-governmental organisations, and global organisations. Partnerships can provide the opportunity to cut costs and save valuable time that can be used for other endeavours. When working in different countries, it is important to be aware that a number of different types of organisational entity exist, each with distinctive legal structures which have different implications when it comes to paying tax. Non-profit organisations offer the opportunity to achieve great social benefits through bringing together highly committed individuals who have shared goals for improving people's lives. Charters, guidelines and policies exist in order to ensure that standards are maintained and aspired to with regard to patient services and care. Building an NPO from scratch is usually a really challenging endeavour, regardless of the country or context.
