ABSTRACT
This chapter is aimed at enabling the health professional to develop the basic skills that are required to practice clinically in a genetics setting. As the basic tool of any genetic assessment is the family tree, this will be discussed in detail. Other clinical applications of genetic technology, such as prenatal and predictive testing, are described. Methods of risk calculation based on inheritance patterns, family history, and biochemical or molecular test results are also explained in this chapter.
