ABSTRACT

This chapter delves into the measurable outcomes observed at NYU since the inception of the original Faith Zone curriculum in 2012. The data clearly showed that Faith Zone has been overwhelmingly successful in meeting our learning outcomes and communicating a complex and nuanced approach toward religious literacy to participants. What was clear from the data was that participants were scoring extremely highly on 3 out of 4 metrics, displaying high levels of knowledge and growth toward a rubric score of 2. The lone exception is the Self-Awareness category. The chapter also demonstrates how to utilize the rubric to evaluate participant responses. Faith Zone drove home how people arrive at their beliefs or lack of beliefs for perfectly good reasons, and that those reasons tend to come with really interesting and even moving personal stories. Faith Zone seems to help the participant (and the facilitator) put faces and people to views that might otherwise be misunderstood.
