ABSTRACT

The last chapter, as was pointed out in the introductory remarks, formed an independent section. The same is true, only more so, of the present chapter: an examination of alien influences on Egyptian religion and the impact which it had upon foreign lands, both at the time and later. We are dealing here with a wide range of problems, and in particular with a large amount of detail, which has to be identified, systematized and evaluated. The course of historical development governs the arrangement of this material. But we must ask the question whether the nature of Egyptian religion, as explored above, lies behind this mass of details. We are convinced that this is so, and that the insights we have so far obtained will stand us in good stead when approaching this topic.
