ABSTRACT

The ®rst and possibly most important mode to consider clinically is the Vulnerable Child mode. This is the mode that usually experiences most of the core schemas. When we are in a Vulnerable Child mode, we are like lost or wounded children. We may appear sad and hopeless, or be anxious, overwhelmed, and helpless. As the name implies, we often feel weak, vulnerable, exposed, and defenseless. The Vulnerable Child is a remnant of the time when the person was a child needing the care of adults in order to survive, but was not getting that care.
