ABSTRACT

In the Europe 2038 project, researchers from seven European countries set out to shed light on young people’s visions and worries concerning the future of their continent and to better understand their engagement with Europe. Given recent political processes and the cumulation of challenges that European countries and the European Union are facing, this is a more than timely issue. Young people could lack interest in Europe. However, they might also take Europe and being European for granted and feels like they are already familiar with the important pieces of information. Depending on what happens in their country or in Europe they would become actively engaged. Reactions of UK youths in the wake of the Brexit poll may be a case in point. The widespread variable-based approach to address objectives such as those of the Europe 2038 project contributes to our limited knowledge concerning diversity and more complex constellations.
