This young teen presented with what seemed initially to be a case of parent-child conflict (adjustment issues with depression) that later developed into complex symptoms of cutting, dissociation and suicidal ideation. The client loved fantasy and video games, and her dissociative symptoms were attributed to a collection of Zodiac “others” who came into her life beginning in kindergarten. Her depiction of the “entry portal” that resided in her brain was that of a computer system, and the mostly protective others came in without notice or warning when she started treatment. We worked toward co-consciousness and improved family communication with higher level monitoring, and she achieved some degree of stability.
