DESCRIPTION

Climate change is increasingly recognised as being one of the most important issues for the world this century. The net-zero emissions target for 2050 is a rallying call to action and governments around the world must take the lead by putting in place the measures needed to meet this target. All low-carbon technologies will need to be deployed, particularly in the electricity sector where fossil fuels dominate. Replacing coal-fired electricity generation is a priority, particularly in China, the USA, and India. This thought-piece explores whether nuclear power, a low-carbon technology with many of the attributes of coal-fired generation, can meet this challenge over the next 30 years.
