DESCRIPTION
Romantic critical writing is presented as exemplary of the Romantic period: it crossed lines of class and taste; it was often transgressive, so much as to lead to the imprisonment of the writer; and it was essentially new. It created a new kind of writer, the literary journalist, and it was the seed-bed of literary experimentation—which led to the creation of forms of writing which are commonplace today, such as sports journalism.
