DESCRIPTION

This Routledge Historical Resource is principally concerned with British and Irish Romanticism. But it should not be forgotten that Romanticism was not purely a phenomenon confined to the British Isles, and that, there were nineteenth-century forms of Romanticism evident throughout Europe, and in North and South America. This video reminds of this, and of the fact that modern controversies about ‘Romanticism’ as a concept - and as a cultural form in contradistinction to classicism - originated in Germany and not in Great Britain. It identifies forms of Romanticism from Russia to Portugal, from the United Sates to Brazil.
