ABSTRACT
When children are victims or witnesses to crimes, they may have to identify a suspect from a photo or in-person lineup. The accuracy of this identification can have serious implications for justice – it can assist law enforcement in arresting a criminal, or it can lead to the false arrest of an innocent person. Thus, in addition to being theoretically relevant to cognitive and emotional development theories, children’s lineup identification accuracy is of great practical importance. This entry reviews the factors that affect children’s person identification accuracy, as well as the psychological processes involved in these decisions.
