ABSTRACT
Long-distance relationships are an increasingly common type of close relationship thanks to societal shifts and educational or employment opportunities. Individuals in such relationships are defined by the prolonged separation from their partner and this distance can influence how they work to maintain the stability and success of their relationship. Relationship maintenance is a well-studied area of close relationships research, with many strategies and processes that focus on communication and functioning. Those in long-distance relationships may find that they must adapt or utilise different relational maintenance strategies to accommodate the distance and time spent apart. With the advancements to and increase in technology, long-distance couples can use technology to improve and expand their maintenance strategies, ensuring positive relational outcomes.
