ABSTRACT
The study of social change in response to inequalities in society has historically been a core field in the social sciences. This entry begins by defining inequality and then outlines several theories relevant to social change as well as resistance to change. It goes on to describe groups that have historically experienced inequality and injustice. Finally, it describes how social change is related to inequality in several spheres including health, education, marriage, law, and religion.
