ABSTRACT
Historically, approaches to student misbehaviour in schools have focused more on reactive interventions where a student displays inappropriate behaviour and school personnel deliver a consequence in response to that behaviour. Reactive approaches can be costly in terms of time and human resources and are often less effective than more proactive approaches in developing sustained positive behavioural environments. Because of this, many schools have implemented school-wide proactive systems that focus on supporting and promoting the positive behaviour of all students in the school. The primary framework for this type of system in schools is Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
