A Message from the General Editor

Welcome to the Routledge Resources Online: Psychology in the Real World!  Psychological science applies to every aspect of life and one of my passions has been to share that psychology is everywhere.

In this product we focus on the major areas of life and our experienced editors and contributors shine the light on how psychological science applies to that area. We have honed in on some of the hub areas of our lives, such as health, the workplace, relationships, education, the legal arena, and sports and presented key concepts and cutting edge research. While many areas of academia fail to successfully take science to broad audiences or to highlight the applications of the science, our authors explicitly worked to illustrate how what they do and what we do as a discipline directly addresses the real work.

This has become even more important after COVID. During the pandemic, for many of us, the workplace and the home merged into one. Our health, our work, education, and our relationships, all changed and often operated more closely than ever before.  In many ways this forced us to examine what makes our lives conducive to success as we modified how work is done. Meanwhile, for the millions of health care workers, food industry employees, and essential service workers, work as they knew it went on, albeit under new stressful situations.  There is a lot of practical psychological science that applied during the pandemic and will serve us well beyond.

I welcome you to seeing just how psychological science applies to the real world in these outstanding contributions.
