Further Education: The Assessment and Accreditation of Prior Learning
The Further and Higher Education Act, 1992 brought fundamental change to the post-16 sector. In April 1993, colleges were given corporate status. Detached from LEAs, they face continuing change through the implementation of National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) and now need to forge strong links with Training and Enterprise Councils (TECs). All this means that colleges have to offer more flexibility in all areas of curricular development, student/client attendance, delivery of learning opportunities, and funding. The Assessment and Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) connects with every one of these requirements and forms an essential ingredient in guidance for:
* personal and career development
* credit accumulation and progression
* equal opportunities
* resource management and collaboration with employers/TECs
* quality assurance
* staff development.
This series of practical books supports institutions and their staff in developing the skills they need to implement effective APL systems.
